| Due to the recent economic slowdown in the west, the outsourcing business in life sciences, especially pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceutical business, has shown a surge. Consider this. Globally, since 2001, spending by drug sponsors on clinical research services has grown 15 percent annually, outpacing the 11 percent rate for overall spending on development. Also, drug sponsors increased their reliance on contract research organizations (CROs). Headcount among major CROs grew six percent annually between 2001 and 2004, while sponsor headcount remained flat. |
