Asian CT growth benign

The emergence of Asian countries as attractive places to conduct clinical trials will not negatively impact on Australia, an Indian expert said.

Head of Clinical Operations Asia, for Novotech Australia, Lil Edis told the [ARCS - Association of Regulatory and Clinical Scientists] conference the number of clinical trials taking place in Korea had been growing exponentially with 400 taking place in 2008 and 2009. Much of the activity is in phase one and phase four with oncology and cardiology the most popular therapeutic areas. Attractions include approval time of four to eight weeks, enormous hospitals of 1,700 to 2,000-plus beds in Seoul and short travel distances between trial sites because of the city’s compact size. One drawback is the fact that all documents must be translated to Korean.
